Choose Divorce Mediation as a Cost Efficient, Smart and Respectful Option to Get Your Divorce
Many couples have chosen divorce mediation as an alternative to hiring opposing divorce attorneys.
How Does Divorce Mediation Work?
Instead of each hiring a divorce lawyer, you hire one person called Divorce Mediator. A Divorce Mediator is a neutral person who guides you to come up with an equitable financial settlement and, if you have children, also a parenting plan. But not every mediator is the same! Choose a Mediator with a Financial Background!
How Will That Help Us?
Because financial mediator can show couples how different divorce financial options will impact them after. For example, if one person gets the home and the other gets the same amount in retirement assets. Is it fair? Not necessarily because one may be taxed more. Also, if one of you handled finances and the other did not. See my point?

Hi, I am Denisa Tova, CDFA CFP, divorce mediator. As a mediator with a strong financial background, I can give divorcing couples financial information and guide them on how to divide up their finances in the most practical and equitable way. We look beyond now and also how their divorce will impact them in the future. When I work with parents, we also consider future expenses of raising the children. I have helped a well over 2000 couples and I can help you!
How Does Mediation Save You Money Compared to Hiring Lawyers?
When you hire a lawyer, almost all divorce lawyers will ask for an advance on their fees (called a retainer) when you hire them. A typical retainer for a lawyer may run from $2,000 to $5,000. That is for each of you so that is not the final cost of your divorce! Once you deplete the retainer, they will ask for more. Depending on your case, you may be paying expert fees on top of that. The average cost of a litigated divorce is $30,000 per couple!!
Mediation is much less expensive! I am a big fan of a flat fee because you will know right from the start how much your divorce will cost you in total. My affordable flat fee model covers an initial review of your financial documents to make sure that you both feel that nothing has been missed, unlimited number of mediation sessions and drafting of your final agreements and a completion of your financial disclosures necessary for filing.
Denisa Tova, CFP, CDFA is a Divorce Mediator and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, and is happy to answer your questions, discuss your situation, explain the mediation process, and quote you a flat fee.
